There’s a real possibility that Obama will not be able to ever regain the massive momentum he carried for more than a year. And he did nothing wrong to blow it, Tom Friedman (notwithstanding smears against Palin by his allies in the blogosphere) It’s not for any lack of campaign discipline, appropriate combativeness, or targeted hype. Those are still sharp gears in his well-oiled message machine.

It’s not because he’s somehow not connecting with the guts of the undecided voters. It’s because they’re guts are sick of eating astroturf all the time.

Although this alone would eventually catch up to him, what does it say about his candidacy that the mere announcement of a female opponent (not even a direct opponent!) was enough to divert significant chunks of likely voters away from him?

Something was artificial from the start.

It’s still the same old story, told to the same adoring crowds of “open minded” supporters (and a few mythical Obamacons!). ‘We were attacked on 9/11 by Islamic zealots and we responded by. . . invading Iraq and chasing Saddam Hussein around a secret network of spiderholes.’ What a terrible example America has set–Russia now thinks it can do the same.

Russia’s incursion into Georgia closely parallels the actions the international community took against Hussein since 1990. Wait, dumbass, no it didn’t. It’s not even like that confusing affair in Kosovo, as the Ruskies claim. And Putin didn’t appear to have been stalled the least bit by corrupted allies and a disinformation regime funded by Georgian strategists giddy on the silly money leaking from unenforceable UN transfers.

So, yeah, keep making the morally equivalent jabs. It really seems to be working.

This chicken & egg argument about the Surge vs the Anbar Awakening, and how this is a major McCain gaffe is truly bizarre. No matter how desperately the Obama camp wants to steal this issue from McCain–and no matter how screechy the Obama fanboi sounds in the MSNBC message board–it is simply not factual to say the Awakening happened without American involvement! Technically, it may have happened before the first Surge brigades set foot in Anbar, but guess what? The tribal sheiks that provided momentum in the early, dark days of the Awakening were already working with American troops.

The Wall Street Journal hits it succinctly here– the Democratics have essentially nominated a shiny bauble, not a worthy adversary.� Obama promises nothing otherwise his scant record would prove it.� And the supposed ‘safeguard’ of the superdelegates failed to prevent it.

To the American Idol crowd, the typical Obama foreign policy stump speech might sound appealing.

To others, the same speech might sound terribly naive and immature.

To those appreciative to the nuances of political theatre, the same speech sounds like a press release from Socialist International.

Obama’s stance on foreign policy is not naive or immature, it’s socialist.� This is what socialists sound like. He’s not urging for more solidarity between the leadership of our nations.� He’s calling for enhancing the prospects of the Socialist International.� And he’s charging dumb Americans 20 bucks a pop to be part of it.� One hell of a campaign strategy.

No dialog between the US and these iddy biddy countries?� Even his own political machine has its own Congressional backchannel to talk with them (and their terror-loving proxies!).� For what reason?� To lend support to the opposition of the Colombian Free Trade deal. . . . an assistance welcomed by various regional socialist congresses. . . . Very nice indeed.

So, yeah, let’s have the that dialog, if only to covertly undermine US foreign policy.
