Somebody tell the UN: America already knows how to manage its forests

The UN makes it sound like some countries (including the US) are just now beginning to find ways to successfully manage renewable resources like forests.
From what I can remember from my rate third grade education, we chopped down so many trees in the 1800’s we had no choice but to conserve our forests and manage forestry output. And our actions worked.
Why are we getting lumped in with sugar-cane-mad Brazil?
