Prop8 backers provide opponents’ addresses for intellectual debate and potential vengeance, but mostly potential vengeance.

January 13th, 2009

Yes, this is all public information and they have every right to create such maps but why are Google Maps being used in this manner?  Will there be a mass stakeout with the intent of gently persuading each one of these souls to change their mind? You know, some coffee and debate club action?

This is the vaunted Internet advantage we’re told the left enjoys. But it’s really not.  It’s not so much a technological advantage as it is an unapologetic willingness to use commonly available tools in ways that could be perceived as threatening. They always retain the deniability factor – “we never intended the data to be used in that way”, but only if they really need it.

You know, like distributing the names and addresses of people who exercised their first admendment rights your ideological enemies at the same time you’re screaming bloody murder because the federal government wanted to consider public Internet access logs at a public library to be, uh, part of the public domain. Because only the Boosh administration could perform random acts of fascism.

Imagine the angry howls if roles were reversed. . . .
