1) I hate the $700 billion bailout
2) I hate McCain’s proposal (which is part of the $700 bailout). It is a direct pander to Main Street (which is good, right?) and would seem to provide direct aid to afflicted homeowners.
So do you like it? Or are there some income transfers you can live with?
A relevant comment from a TPM reader:
“Am I the only one that sees the McCain hypocrisy in criticizing Obama’s tax plan for “redistributing wealth” while at the same time proposing a mortgage relief plan that would take my tax dollars to pay down my neighbor’s mortgage who got in over his head?”
McCain’s plan costs $300 billion. That’s roughly $1000 for every American man, woman, and child. So, Vinman, why don’t you cut a check for $4,000 on behalf of you and your family and walk it over to one of your neighbors whose house is being foreclosed on? Seems a bit like an income transfer, no?
