CNN confused why folks would be outraged that the leading presidential candidate won’t honestly discuss his links with a deadly terrorist.

October 10th, 2008

It is, after all, such a meaningless distraction to the campaign.

CNN on the Obama-Ayers collaboration:

Obama and Ayers, now a university professor, met in 1995, when both worked with a nonprofit group trying to raise funds for a school improvement project and a charitable foundation. CNN’s review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the volunteer projects in which the two men were involved.

Nobody has alleged Obama and Ayers collaborated on anything inaappropriate!  The argument is that 1) Obama is not being truthful on when he met and began working with Ayers, and 2) why Obama would have worked with a rehabilitated Ayers anyway.

Would Obama have worked with “rehabilitated” Timothy McVeigh, or at least been aware of his reputation?  I’d hope not, but the evidence in front of us suggests we can’t be too sure.

I think McCain was brainwashed at the Hanoi Hilton and intends to hand this country over to the commies. Why won’t he tell us the truth! And it’s a big problem that you don’t seem to care, Vinman.

No, I’m knocking Obama because Ayers was a hugely influential presence in Obama’s work experience for a long time (we will never know HOW long because for some reason Obama doesn’t seem interested in telling us.) Kinda like Kerry’s reluctance to release his entire military service record WHILE RUNNING AS A WAR HERO. We only get to hear what HE wants us to know. That you’re not interested in knowing more is a big problem.

Bill Maher is smart and well tempered. Would you vote for him too?

I am interested in any of McCain’s bottom dwelling associates. Can you link me to some reputable MSMs prop that shows McCain worked with any unreformed terrorists for half a decade? I’d be interested.

I can link you to Kevin Bacon, but you’ve never sat on 3 boards with/near him. Oh, and those other notable folks that knew Ayers too–they’re not running for President.

BTW how are them Chicago schools doing these days? Just how exactly did Ayers and Obama leave a lasting improvement there? What about his Chicago experience tells you that he’s good at anything other than distributing other peoples money? He’s apparently aiming to do that as President too.

I want to elect Obama in part because, like Charles Krauthammer and Christopher Buckley, I think he has a first class intellect and a first class temperment. How is it that you’re getting your dick in a knot over Ayers but have no concern for all of McCain’s bottom-dwelling associates? Is that not hypocritical? I don’t give a shit about McCain’s or Obama’s associations. Thank you for conceding the point on the McVeigh-Ayers thing. Are you resting your entire criticism on the idea that Obama actually met Ayers prior to when he said he did? Knock yourself out.

lots of people want to hire this man for president on his vacuous words alone. That you “don’t give a shit” says everything I need to know about you.

And this McVeigh-Ayer’s thing. . Yeah, you’re right. TOTALLY different.

Where did I call it a smear? I just think it’s irrelevant. And when you consider that this is all that McCain / Palin have been talking about for the past week, and have seemingly gained little to nothing in the polls from having done so, most other people think it’s irrelevant too.

There’s plenty of overt racism at the McCain / Palin rallies. Not sure why you would to talk about racism right now.

Bill Ayers did some terrible things but putting him in the same category with Timothy McVeigh or the 9/11 attackers (as McCain seems willing to do) is ridiculous. Bill Ayers never killed anyone and went to great measure to ensure that he didn’t. I think the law makes distinctions in this regard. Thinking adults should too.

John McCain calls felon G Gordon Liddy a friend. Liddy encourages his listeners to shoot ATF agents in the head if they ever come to take your guns.

McCain employed a lobbyist for Myanmar as an aide to his campaign. Myanmar murders and rapes it’s own people and John McCain employed a guy who, for money, worked to advance their cause.

Charles Keating… you know the story.

    I’m sure I could find more…

…But I don’t give a shit.. Guilt by association is fundamentally ignorant. If at any point Barack Obama expressed support for Ayers’ actions in the 60’s and 70’s then you might have something. But he hasn’t, so this is pointless.

Your reputation is walking a thin line here, my friend.

How is mentioning that Obama sat on 3 boards with a terrorist, and Obama posing ignorant about his past a smear?

What difference does it make if someone thinks these criticisms are ill-founded., You know, I think Obama himself thinks they’re unfounded too. So let’s just all back off and play nice.

    Reform housing practices – rascist
Oppose instant voting– even more racist
Oppose global warming science — unenlightened racist
Bring up past associations – waaay over the top racist. And facist too!

Hillary Clinton thought it was legit.

So let’s postulate a minute–if nobody brings this up now, we will have the pleasure of electing a man for President that, in the not too distant past, “unknowingly” collaborated with an unrepentant terrorist. Got my vote!

(not sure why you’re circling the wagons on this one. Do me a favor and read something about the Weathermen)

The only people that seem to care about this story is you and the frothy-mouthed, evolutionarily-deprived base.

The guy who prosecuted Ayers thinks that smearing Obama with this is absurd.

McCain’s former top strategist, John Weaver, doesn’t care about Ayers.

If I wasn’t so lazy, I could list several more respectable Republicans who think that Ayers is irrelevant.

Personally, I hope McCain dumps every penny he’s got into this Ayers thing.

Don’t you think the Timothy McVeigh comparison is a bit ridiculous? How many people did Bill Ayers kill?
