Hurricane Obama downgraded to Category 2, needs to win over more undecideds than he’s losing
There’s a real possibility that Obama will not be able to ever regain the massive momentum he carried for more than a year. And he did nothing wrong to blow it, Tom Friedman (notwithstanding smears against Palin by his allies in the blogosphere) It’s not for any lack of campaign discipline, appropriate combativeness, or targeted hype. Those are still sharp gears in his well-oiled message machine.
It’s not because he’s somehow not connecting with the guts of the undecided voters. It’s because they’re guts are sick of eating astroturf all the time.
Although this alone would eventually catch up to him, what does it say about his candidacy that the mere announcement of a female opponent (not even a direct opponent!) was enough to divert significant chunks of likely voters away from him?
Something was artificial from the start.
