Seven percent of likely voters (roughly the size of the Bush Derangement Syndrome crowd) consider McCain’s storied military experience a reason to vote against him.

Some insights into “shake-em down” Chicago politics via the testimony of a Hollywood producer. Is the Obama campaign following these developments closely, or are they transcending them?

. . do they take to donning purple street garb, organizing bus caravans, and violently intimidating dissenting union members? I guess Americans respond to stimuli in different ways.
The excuse for such street fascism open debate?
“At a time when the economy is in a downward spiral, when income inequality and economic uncertainty are at record levels and when only 12.1 percent of the U.S. workforce has union representation, we simply can not abide by union-busting and member poaching between unions. Unions must stand united for the interests of working people.“The more than 800 SEIU members who traveled to Dearborn from all parts of the country tonight would much rather be at home: holding their local state and national representatives accountable; going door to door to elect pro-worker candidates; and helping security officers, janitors, healthcare workers, and other service workers unite to attain a voice on the job [ed--and mailing $20 donations to the Obama campaign]. But CNA’s recent actions threaten the future of the labor movement for all workers—and we cannot remain silent. [ed-so let's bust'em up????]“Open debate [ed - read: physical intimidation] serves an important role as we work to strengthen our movement. The Labor Notes Conference is the right time and place to discuss our differences. Emergency room hallways and days before contentious union elections are not.

From ABC’s Political Radar blog:
Worth mentioning: Senator Obama receives a crucial endorsement from a “gun rights” group, bolstering his recently-battered Second Amendment mystique.
Worth mentioning: Senator Obama receives this endorsement on the anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre.
Not worth mentioning: Why this isn’t “bad timing”, but ironic timing, since the endorsement comes from a “gun rights” group that has substantial links to the gun-control movement! (an irony lost on ABC).
Political Radar: Obama Endorsed by Gun Group on Anniversary of V-Tech Killings
“Sen. Obama will be a strong voice an unabashed voice for Americas hunters and shooters and it is with great pleasure that we endorse his candidacy,” President of the Association Ray Schoenke said, citing Obama’s commitment to the traditions of gun ownership.Schoenke said they had reached out to the Obama campaign several weeks ago to offer their support – but the announcement wasn’t made public until today. Schoenke added that the timing amid the controversy was important.
That’s because you want to make a gun-control statement while exploiting the memories of victims of gun violence. Violence that no law could have conceivably prevented.
How exactly does this bolster Obama’s support among hunters and sportsmen?

Riots and instability spread as food prices skyrocket. Experts might argue over the exact causes of the crisis, but you really don’t need to scroll down much further on the CNN’s homepage to see the real reason: man consumes 420 oysters in one sitting. Which is apparently some sort of record.
Sad, but you could see this one coming. . .

A world ‘peace activist’ was found murdered during her hitchhiking trek though western Asia. While wearing a bridal gown.
After she had gone missing last month, her sister came from Italy to look for her, and ended up having to identify her body at the morgue. Per the sister:
“Her travels were for an artistic performance and to give a message of peace and of trust, but not everyone deserves trust,” another sister, Maria, told the Italian news agency, Ansa.

“The politics of the Karl Rove era were designed to distract and divide the very people who would ordinarily be rebelling against the deterioration of their way of life. Working Americans have been repeatedly seduced at the polls by emotional issues such as the predictable mantra of “God, guns, gays, abortion and the flag” while their way of life shifted ineluctably beneath their feet.”

Some highlights from the Obama pile-on from JOM:
ITS ABOUT JUDGMENT: Barack routinely lauds his good judgment in wanting to stay out of Iraq. Now lets see if he stays out of Pennsylvania. . . .
HELPFUL, BUT NOT: Marc Ambinder psychoanalyzes Obama and tells us what he really meant. Well, fine, but no matter how well-intentioned and sincere Obama may have been, when a big government Harvard lib explains to working class people that they are bitter because government has failed them and consequently they have taken refuge in guns, religion, and racism, it sounds condescending. Mainly because it is.
I thought bowling a 37 would have buried him. What a maroon.

Randi Rhodes suspended for speaking freely, pissing off Clinton Media Fascists, but mostly for pissing off Clinton Media Fascists
April 4, 2008
While nitwits still bitch about how President Bush has eroded civil rights, Clinton Media Facists set new records in actually silencing critics:
Randi Rhodes, an afternoon host for the progressive Air America radio network, was suspended Thursday after repeatedly insulting Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton at an event last month.Ms. Rhodes used vulgar language that likened Mrs. Clinton to a prostitute at an event sponsored by KKGN, the Air America affiliate in the San Francisco area, on March 22. A video of Ms. Rhodes’ remarks was published to the video-sharing Web site YouTube on Tuesday, prompting condemnations by some bloggers.
In a statement, Charlie Kireker, the chair of Air America, said the radio network “encourages strong opinions about public affairs but does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by our hosts.”
However repugnant Rhodes’ comments were, why the sudden interest in her attacks on Clinton? Listening occasionally to Rhodes over the years, I’ve heard her seethe how sinister conservatives like Tom Delay and Dick Cheney could theoretically vanquish their enemies without anything resembling a fair fight. And I’ve heard her deliver “abusive, ad hominem attacks” against President Bush, usually including some kind of color commentary that either correlated his intellect with the distance between his eyes or pointed out his supposed simian resemblances.
She wasn’t suspended then, so why now?
