Can’t they just get it right?

The first sentence in this otherwise normal article in the Times about Rush Limbaugh is completely inaccurate. Is it that difficult to do basic fact checking and objective analysis?

It’s kind of hard to claim that you were referring to one verifiably “phony soldier” when you a) initially referred to a plurality of “phony soldierS” b) do not mention that one individual by name for nearly two minutes after making the initial “phony soldierS” comment and c) refer to John Murtha as a “phony soldier” despite the fact he is a combat veteran with the medals to prove it (I’m sure those of your ilk are feverishly trying to prove that he didn’t deserve those medals). Limbaugh and Vinman should quit pretending to support the troops when they actually only support an ideology.
Wow, plural vs singular! And he almost took two minutes to clarify his statement! That time lapse only PROVES he’s guilty. It’s like “My Pet Goat” all over again! What does it say about the Left, when they’re reduced to tracking the plural vs singular connotations of specific words spoken in public?
Limbaugh lumped Murtha in with the phony soldiers, but this is only a problem if your attempting to document the sentence structure. WHICH IS LAME and you know it. After adding Murtha to his list, Limbaugh went on to say, uh, nothing about Murtha actually being a phony soldier, but something more along the line of:
I’m glad there are dozens of people at Media Matters recording and diagramming every spoken word by enemies of the Left, to engage in some kind of gotcha game. Is that what the Left stands for–the monitoring and policing of free speech? Is that what you stand for, Zac? Are you and Media Matters now going to tell me that somehow the AP is in cahoots with Limbaugh to cover up his speech crimes?
I think it’s more than a little stupid to accuse somebody of lending only cynical support to the military when there is more than twenty years of taped audio of him proving you wrong. I can understand why you wouldn’t want to listen to Limbaugh but I can’t understand why you’d make an accusation that you will never be able to prove.
You respect the military, but condemn it because it can’t prosecute itself effectively. Point taken . It should no problem for you, then, to respect Jack Murtha as a person yet condemn some of his ill-advised (and slanderous) speech.
