Heading South

June 29, 2006

Probably little to no activity from me the next week or so–taking the wifey and kids for a little R&R.

Don’t cross your crazy aunt

June 27, 2006

An entire family in Denmark has been convicted of an ‘honor’ killing.  Something tells me this wasn’t a old Danish tradition.

It’s 10:42pm ET and only FoxNews.com is running with any mention of the Santorum/Hoekstra WND debriefing on their front page.  See the latest roundup at Captain’s Quarters.

Diabetes on rise, CO2 likely culprit

June 20, 2006

The diabetes rate has doubled in the last 30 years, according to a report in the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation. A growing consensus within the international nutritional scientific community attributes the drastic rise to an alarming rate of consumption of non-domestic foods and carbonated drinks. Sales of such foodstuffs have soared since the 1960’s as post consumerism has swept society, and it is this phenomenon in particular that has those worried about diabetes pointing fingers to the obvious correlation. True democracy in action — 8,000 Applicants For 350 Jobs At N.J. Wal-Mart. I do have to question why someone that lives in the Bronx would want to commute to Kearney, NJ, though.

Berg Droppings

June 8, 2006

Why in the world would Reuters seek Michael Berg’s opinion of the al-Zarqawi bombing?  Aside from his predictable rants–which could easily have been written far in advance–why does it seem like Reuters had this story on standby for a big news day like today?

Are they looking for a new Sheehan?

World Cup 2006

June 7, 2006

No international sporting event can transpire without at least one mention of ‘doping’ by one of the star athletes.  Let’s wager that an accusation will be made within the first week, and that the accused will be from one of the South American sides.

What Happens When There Is No Plan B?

June 6, 2006

Anonymous op-ed written with stunning selfishness and an itty bitty bit of intellectual cretinism.

  • “It was a decision I am sorry I had to make. It was awful, painful, sickening. But I feel that this administration gave me practically no choice but to have an unwanted abortion because the way it has politicized religion made it well-nigh impossible for me to get emergency contraception that would have prevented the pregnancy in the first place.”
  • “Moreover, they aren’t even required to tell the patient why they won’t provide the drug. Nor do they have to provide a list of alternative sources”

Kudos to the WaPo for reminding us why the left will have a hard time winning elections this fall.

6-6-6

June 6, 2006

Realizations of hellfire and chaos? Not yet, but the day isn’t over. Let’s revisit some of the more dire predictions of calamity from the past couple of years.  Some of these were gems from the 2004 Presidential Elections:

  • Flu - No, not the Avian Flu. . Remember the accusations that the US would not have enough influenza vaccines to get though the 2004/2005 winter season? This fear was long forgotten even before we got to Winter 2005/2006.
  • The Draft - Another ’serious’ accusation that fizzled away despite the best efforts from whiny collegians.
  • State of the Economy - Dude, where’s my recession?
  • Protect the Ports! - From what exactly?
  • Avian Flu - Uh, what?
  • Global Warming - There is consensus among leading scientists! By the time you read this, we will have lost two acres of ice in a certain part of the Arctic. Be worried. Be VERY worried.

Stay tuned for more alarmism in 2006 . . Remember, there are elections coming up!
